Mary Elizabeth Davis was appointed Superintendent of Henry County Schools in November 2017. Prior to serving as Superintendent, Mary Elizabeth served as the Chief Academic Officer in Cobb County Schools, the 23rd largest school system in the country and as the Assistant Superintendent of Teaching & Learning in Gwinnett County Public School, the 13th largest school system in the country. Mary Elizabeth joined the Henry County School system with a recognized background in building systems for teaching and learning, driving student performance improvements, and building system-changing literacy models to ensure all students can read and write at or above grade level.
She started her career as a chemistry and physics teacher in Fairfax County, Virginia and then Cobb County, Georgia. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Chemistry and a Certification in Secondary Education at Messiah College where she also played field hockey and softball. She continued her education with a Master’s in Public Administration, a Specialist in Education Leadership, and a Doctor of Philosophy in Education Policy with a concentration in social foundations all at Georgia State University.
